April has been a month chock full of enriching activities for us in 4-3. We started off with a great field trip to the Art Institute organized by Mr. DeMarco! Today I am sending home the reflections they wrote the afternoon we returned from the trip. I attached a note to this quick write that students completed. Their thoughts were interesting to read and were fresh from the trip so they could share more than they might have shared with you later that evening. Take some time to read those, it will give you direction on what to see when using the Family Pass to the Art Institute.
ART INSTITUTE - April 3, 2017
Upon our return to school after spring break we dove right into our last Schoolwide Literacy Unit of the year: Poetry. This is always such a great way to finish the year out and the unit is started in April to coincide with National Poetry month. Many students are intimidated by poetry or simply just don't like it. By the end of the unit students learn and acquire literacy skills that deepen their understanding of this type of literature. Structure, framework and different types of poetry are explored. Students are keeping a folder of their work, written reflections, and collections of poetry. Different types of poetry are explored and students are asked to write their own pieces to also keep in their poetry folders.
Julie Jergens from the Arlington Heights Memorial Library visited on Tuesday, April 18th and presented a creative way to drum up some poetic creativity using the picture book Inkblots.
ART AWARENESS also wrapped up for the year with a presentation of artist Alberto Giacometti, who is most known for his bronze sculptures that look like stick people. Students made their very own sculptures.
